First degree murder charges were dismissed against Victor Callo-Sanchez resulting in a reduced charge of manslaughter. Sanchez fatally shot another man as the man was fleeing after an attempted burglary of a liquor store. H.A. Sala argued that his lack of criminal record and the nature of the confrontation that led to the shooting should be considered in reducing the sentence. Sanchez was facing 25 years to life and was sentenced to only 6 years.
